Short Description:
An Electrical Controls Designer is a professional responsible for creating and designing electrical control systems for various applications, including manufacturing, automation, and industrial processes. They play a critical role in developing detailed electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and programming specifications to ensure the efficient and safe operation of electrical systems. Electrical Controls Designers collaborate with engineers, project managers, and technicians to bring designs from concept to implementation.
Duties / Responsibilities:
Develop electrical control system designs based on project requirements and specifications.
Create detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts using CAD software.
Design and specify components for control systems, including sensors, actuators, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate control systems with mechanical and automation components.
Program and configure PLCs, human-machine interfaces (HMIs), and other control devices.
Conduct testing and troubleshooting of electrical control systems to ensure functionality and reliability.
Collaborate with vendors to select and source electrical components.
Provide technical support during the installation and commissioning of control systems.
Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and advancements in control system design.
Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety standards, and project specifications.
Skills / Requirements / Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, automation, or a related field.
Experience: Proven experience in electrical controls design or a similar role.
CAD Software: Proficiency in CAD software for electrical design (e.g., AutoCAD, EPLAN).
PLC Programming: Strong knowledge of PLC programming and control system integration.
Electrical Standards: Familiarity with electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
Analytical: Analytical and problem-solving skills for troubleshooting and optimizing control systems.
Communication: Effective communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
Attention to Detail: Attention to detail and accuracy in creating electrical schematics and documentation.
Continuous Learning: Continuous learning and staying updated on advancements in control system technology.
On-Site Travel: Willingness to travel for on-site installations and commissioning.
