Short Description:
A Proposal/Grant Writer is responsible for researching, writing, and submitting compelling proposals to secure funding from government agencies, foundations, and other organizations. They analyze grant requirements, gather necessary information, and tailor proposals to align with funder priorities. Proposal/Grant Writers also track application deadlines, ensure compliance with guidelines, and manage reporting requirements for awarded grants. Strong research, writing, and organizational skills are essential for success in this role.
Duties / Responsibilities:
Identify and analyze potential grant and funding sources from government agencies, foundations, and private organizations that align with the organization’s mission.
Write compelling and well-structured grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funding requests tailored to specific grant requirements.
Work with program managers, finance teams, and executives to gather relevant data and ensure alignment between funding requirements and organizational goals.
Draft and refine proposals, ensuring clarity, coherence, and adherence to the specific guidelines and requirements set by funding agencies.
Track grant application deadlines, submission requirements, and follow up on application statuses to maximize funding opportunities.
Compile required documentation, including budgets, program descriptions, impact statements, and other relevant materials.
Track and document grant applications, funding received, reporting deadlines, and post-award compliance requirements.
Assist in preparing reports for funders detailing program outcomes, financial expenditures, and compliance with grant terms.
Collaborate with development teams to create fundraising strategies, donor outreach campaigns, and sponsorship proposals.
Review and interpret grant guidelines to ensure all applications meet eligibility criteria and align with the funder's objectives.
Skills / Requirements / Qualifications
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Business, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred for some positions).
Strong Writing and Editing Skills: Exceptional ability to write persuasively, clearly, and concisely, with strong grammar and editing skills.
Research and Analytical Skills: Ability to conduct thorough research on funding opportunities, assess grant eligibility, and analyze funding trends.
Knowledge of Grant and Proposal Writing Best Practices: Familiarity with grant writing formats, nonprofit funding requirements, and submission processes for various funding agencies.
Project Management and Organization: Ability to manage multiple deadlines, track grant applications, and coordinate with different departments efficiently.
Budgeting and Financial Literacy: Understanding of budget development and financial reporting as it relates to grant applications and funding compliance.
Attention to Detail and Compliance: Strong attention to detail to ensure applications meet funder guidelines and compliance requirements.
Experience with Grant Databases and CRM Tools: Proficiency in using grant management software, donor databases, and CRM tools such as Salesforce, GrantHub, or Foundation Directory.
