Short Description:
A Test and Repair Technician is responsible for testing, diagnosing, and repairing equipment or systems to ensure they meet performance standards. They use specialized tools and diagnostic software to identify malfunctions, perform necessary repairs, and conduct tests to verify functionality after repairs. Test and Repair Technicians also document their findings, track inventory, and provide technical support when needed. Strong problem-solving skills, technical expertise, and attention to detail are essential for success in this role.
Duties / Responsibilities:
Conduct routine diagnostic tests on electronic systems, equipment, and components to identify and troubleshoot problems.
Repair and replace faulty parts or components to restore equipment to working condition. Calibrate and fine-tune systems for optimal performance.
Keep detailed records of testing, repairs, and maintenance performed on equipment. Ensure logs are up-to-date for future reference.
Offer technical assistance to clients or internal teams, helping with troubleshooting or guiding through repair and maintenance procedures.
Carefully assemble, disassemble, and reassemble equipment, ensuring proper alignment and connections.
Adhere to safety guidelines while handling electrical equipment, tools, and machinery to avoid accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
Work closely with engineers or product developers to understand the technical specifications and repair requirements of complex systems.
After repairs are made, conduct further tests to ensure that the equipment is functioning properly and meets operational standards.
Communicate with customers to understand equipment issues, explain repair procedures, and provide updates on progress and repairs.
Diagnose and resolve any software-related issues on systems, including updating firmware or software patches.
Skills / Requirements / Qualifications
Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of electrical and electronic systems, along with the ability to use diagnostic tools and test equipment.
Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting: Ability to identify problems, think critically, and find effective solutions for a wide range of system malfunctions.
Attention to Detail: Precision in inspecting, testing, and repairing components to ensure they meet quality and safety standards.
Strong Communication Skills: Clear and effective communication for reporting issues, explaining repair processes, and interacting with team members or clients.
Basic Knowledge of Safety Procedures: Familiarity with workplace safety practices, including handling hazardous materials or tools safely.
High School Diploma or Equivalent (Associate Degree Preferred): A high school diploma or GED is typically required, though an associate degree in electronics or a related field may be preferred.
