A Conventional Machinist is a skilled professional who specializes in operating and setting up conventional machining tools to produce precision components. These machinists work with lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other manually operated equipment to shape and fabricate metal or plastic parts according to engineering specifications. They play a critical role in manufacturing and fabrication processes, ensuring the accuracy and quality of machined components.
Duties / Responsibilities:
Interpret engineering drawings and blueprints to understand machining requirements.
Set up and operate conventional machining tools, including lathes, milling machines, and grinders.
Select and install cutting tools, adjusting speeds and feeds for optimal machining.
Measure and inspect finished components to ensure they meet specifications.
Make adjustments to machines and tooling to achieve precise measurements.
Collaborate with engineers and designers to troubleshoot and optimize machining processes.
Perform routine maintenance on machines to ensure proper functionality.
Calculate dimensions and tolerances for machined parts.
Work with various materials, including metals, plastics, and composites.
Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.
Skills / Requirements / Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training is often preferred.
Experience: Proven experience as a Conventional Machinist.
Technical Blueprints: Proficiency in reading technical drawings and blueprints.
Machining Principles: Knowledge of machining techniques and principles.
Machining Properties: Familiarity with various materials and their machining properties.
Machining Tools: Ability to set up and operate conventional machining tools.
Attention to Detail: Precision and attention to detail in machining tasks.
Troubleshooting: Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Physical: Physical stamina for standing and operating machinery for extended periods.
